The Pampered Prisoner Prison Pen Pals

Seeking serious, loyal individuals for friendship, activism in fighting against wrongs. Please visit www.melissachapman.com to read/sign my petition. You can also email me! My case is a horrendous example of how the judicial system goes wrong without remedy for correction. At this juncture I have served over 1/2 my life incarcerated since the age of 18 for the actions of another. I am sponsored by the Michigan Battered Women's Clemency Project & ACLU due to unjust prosecution. My case is unique in that I am NOT here for having killed my abuser, rather, my abuser murdered someone in my presence & forced me to be party to it. Former Governor William Milliken is one of our staunchest supporters, along with many other legislators, public officials, & organizations. Public support is greatly needed to impact government & shed light on this issue.

At the age of 18 in 1987 I was forced, at gunpoint (with the threat of death to my family members), if I did not comply with my abuser. For this I was convicted of 1st Degree Murder without the possibility of parole. In MI, this is akin to the death penalty as the parole board disregards natural lifers from pardon regardless of the laws & statutes. I am not a murderer. However, I take full responsibility for my actions. I do not deny I should have been convicted, although appropriately on a lesser offense. I wanted my family & I to survive. Punishment should fit the crime. Clearly this is not the case when one is made culpable for the actions of another one has no control over.

I am not interested in your money or playing games. If you believe in my cause, please email my petition to others you know who might support my release, write letters, offer jobs - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/544592064?ltl=1163402308

I've spent my incarceration productively & have an excellent record. I've obtained degrees in AS Arts & Science, Certified Legal Writer, Yoga Instructor, Graphic Arts, Warehouse, Business Technologies. I work as a Legal Aide. I'm not letting this time do me!

I love life & make the most out of every day. A true Aquarius. I despise injustice. Outgoing & compassionate, I see potential good in all of us. A lover of life, people, nature & wildlife, free-spirit (even prison can't take that away!). My greatest hope is to change the world for the better - to have a positive impact on others. I enjoy mystical/New Age thought to fantasy art, making jewelry, drawing, cards/scrapbooking, working out, running, music from Chopin to Nickelback.

We can make a difference if we reach out to one another. The smallest gesture can create a lasting impact for the good. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Be blessed. Photos welcomed. Please do not send money, stamps. No inmate mail.

I hope to hear from you soon - have a great day!

WHAT I NEVER WANTED

Wishes like rain drops caught tongue
during dry spell
elusive, momentary miracle
soon forgotten.

Yesterday dissolved
into broken fragment
memories
of long distant phone calls

Giggling girlhood
before realization of unspent youth

Sweet 16 brought Seagrams 7's
drunken bathroom kisses
boys snuck through back door

Late-night sneak-outs,
school skipped days filled smoky with
cars scent of reefer, rebellion,
Led Zeppelin Riffs.

An innocence lost under October's
chilly star-filled sky in Golf course pavilion.

Reflecting on here & now
a curl of brunette tress
beauty mark reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour-
just because Some Like It Hot doesn't mean you are-
Stars still burn out
and fall from Heaven.

Yet, for compassion lacked in political pretences,
Wishes still are made on the brightest star
seen tonight.
So one must search for a brighter shining star
than yours.

Yesterday dissolved,
Today transpired
Tomorrow remains full of potential

And in a moment of realization
I came across the sweetest soul
The kindest eyes
and I knew -
despite life's losses,
I never wanted to say goodbye
to possibilities.

THE DANCER

They pull the strings as she jerks too and fro
a marionette
recklessly guided by her handlers
She sways to the tune of their inclinations
Broken Ragdoll
No Mind
No Voice
No Existence
Serving to please
never really being seen
She longs to take her own steps
Free of their reign
They tug cruelly
Her wooden legs clacking together
she readies herself -
They Push
She Pulls
The cords are TAUT like wire
She shows no resistance
until the
"SNAP"
of broken twine
She runs, not looking back
To dance on the grave
of her imprisonment
She has left
Far Behind.

ONE LAST TIME AROUND

He's my lover, this pavement.
broken, cracked
supporting me
while I make my way
around the track of his back.

The real story is the love for my run
as feet punch
gravel sideways
and knees groan
on upward incline

I seek refuge on his path
Commune with the steady assurance of gravity
Propelled by the need
to continually thrust forward

Time, space encompass all
as I make my way
round the bend of his waist
I am seeking freedom
and though my body will pay for this exertion
my mind refuses to allow my legs to stop

I am drunk
on motion
Intoxicated by the rush of
body's speed

The burn of liquid lung,
Pinched nerve
Pulled muscle
mean nothing
in the moment of my rapture
breathing in the
air of Achilles
as I seek
longitude.

Blessings come in rain-soaked sweat
Driving out demons of impurity
to absolve the sins of past neglect

Fatigue sets in
Yet my love
of the run
has no end.
