Art by Artist:
Kenny C. Begay
MY NAME IS KENNY CARL BEGAY. I am 32, 5'8", 190 lbs., Native American Navajo. I am presently incarcerated for
a crime of fighting with my sibling (brother), both of us in an inebriated state, resulting, initially, in serious
bodily harm to him. NOTE: The Federal Government (only) pressed for charges.
My brother is fully recovered, does not harbor any animosity and corresponds with me frequently and finally, is
incensed that this unilateral government indictment has caused me such misfortune for an incident that was
strictly familial.
Nevertheless, this foolish occurrence resulted in a penalty of 4 (four) years, two years of which has already passed.
I graduated from High School in "'93", following, subsequently, by a-year-abroad studying Castellano Spanish in
Andalucia, Spain.
Upon return, I continued my education at Webber State University, Ogden, Utah, whence this unfortunate mishap terminated my studies.
I have never been married, thus no children. I speak three languages fluently: English, Spanish and my Native Navajo.
My interests are symphonies, jazz and thirst for knowledge; the latter stressing self-help and autobiographical materials.
But more to the point and the reason for this opening expository, I believe my true vocation is that of a portrait
artist, particularly sketches employing acrylic paint taught me at an early age by my Native Elders. My talents,
hence works, have modestly been described as phenomenal, capturing the essence of life.
Eventually, after this enforced sojourn, I will enroll in the Fine Arts Department of Arizona State University to
further enhance my inherent skills emphasizing the more commercial aspects of this noble trade.
Though I support myself within the prison walls by portrait painting for other inmates, my entreaty here and
therefore the reason for this pecuniary advertisement, is to sell my skills in [a] quest to build up savings
for my post-incarceration-studies. As an aside, I will apply for a scholarship and feel confident of acceptance,
however, just in case, I need a "financial backstop" to continue my lofty endeavor.
To that end, I propose to do your portrait from a photo. Obviously, my rates are very competitive and reasonable.
My time will be apportioned for maximum excellence for each project, thus I will refuse work if inundated, hampering
these perfectionist sensibilities.
THE PROCEDURE: Photo submission, size desired (Note: the maximum-prison-size-limit is: TWO FORMATS: ART PAPER, the
size 11" by 14" (eleven inches by fourteen inches), or alternatively, should you desire your portrait on a sturdy
second format, CANVAS BOARD, the dimensions are 14" by 18" (fourteen inches by eighteen inches).
To summarize: Following the size requested, keeping in mind the upper limits above, a bid will henceforth be
returned by me for your acquiescence and request for payment inclusive of postage.
Thank you,
Kenny Begay
P.S. Portraits in the pictures are still in the works.
