My name is Hayden Roland *CZ-3875. I have been incarcerated since 1995. I am serving a 7-40 year
sentence for kidnapping, robbery, and aggravated assault.
I am in search of any type of legal assistance that can be given to me. Although I am not innocent, I participated
minimally in my crime.
My co-defendant, who had been recently paroled from state prison, was on the run and committing new crimes. He befriended
me, and on, August 1, 1995 we hitch-hiked until we were picked up. While driving, my co-defendant started beating this
man, demanding his money and MAC card. Then my co-defendant takes the victim, beats him and demands me to join in.
He forces the victim to a creek and tells him to wait there.
My public defender had me held in the courthouses "bullpen" for 3-8 hour days with a plea-agreement. He assured me
that he, the judge, and District Attorney realized the minimal participation I had in this crime. And they agreed I
would get the minimum sentence 33-66 months for the kidnapping and 12-24 months for the assault and robbery to run
together. My total sentence would be 45-90 months maximum.
At my sentencing the judge sentenced me to the maximum because I "looked like a choir boy" and I was a "follower."
Shortly after, my Public Defender became an Assistant District Attorney.
My Co-defendant was given 8-30 years for this and many other crimes he had committed before meeting me on the run.
The parole board keeps giving untrue excuses not to parole me but it's because of my time.
I am in desperate need of legal help.
